Mālās
I have been chanting on mālās for most of my life and love the way they can help to focus the mind and energy in the most auspicious way. I am so happy to share high quality, simple, clear malas, which I have hand-selected from the foothills of the Himalaya for students and friends. A portion of the proceeds of these mala will go to support the Little Stars School and other charities in India.
What is a mālā (pronounced “Maa Laa”), also known as japamala? Mālā (the Sanskrit word for “garland”), is a string of prayer beads used for counting and keeping focused on prayers or mantras. Mālās are used in many religions, including Buddhism, Hinduism, Sikhism, and other traditions
Focusing the mantras or prayers with a mala, or even wearing it as a reminder of our spiritual focus or intent can be highly beneficial. A mala typically consists of 108 beads, which help to focus the mind on the repetition of a mantra or prayer, a guru bead at the end/beginning representing the specific point of focus or teacher. The tassel at the end is made from the cords that are hand-knotted for strength to unite the beads on the mala, and represents the energy continuing as a blessing into the world. A percentage of the sales of these malas will go to support Little Stars School in India, for disadvantaged children.
108 highest quality clear Himalayan Crystal larger stones, hand-knotted with guru bead and white tassel. The Himalayan crystal amplifies prayers and intentions and supports clear energy, strengthening the aura, and holding the energy of the prayers or mantras. I like to wear these daily.
Rosewood is grounding, connects us to the earth and to our heart and to compassion. It holds primarily feminine energy and can be used for any mantra, though I like it particularly for mantras of the heart of divine feminine.
This mala offers a beautiful balancing of masculine and feminine energies. The high quality rudraksha seed (masculine energy, as in Shiva, brings about focus and peace, good health, clear energy) is interspersed (hand-knotted) evenly with fine pearls (feminine energy, cooling, pacifying, prosperity).
Sandalwood has been used to enhance meditation and bring tranquility to the mind, with many even rubbing sandalwood powder on the forehead, or using the scent. In addition to the energetic benefits, this mala feels especially light and smooth to the touch.
