Gina Salá Gina Salá, freshly inspired after leading and deepening in sound in India (raga, mantra, devotional and tantric sound practices) and in the unique vibrations of Bali, Japan and Egypt is happy to share ways that sound can nourish us and deepen our capacity for love and life.

Current calendar below. Hari Om!

    Updated 02/17/10!

"Singing frees the birds in the heart to sing, and allows the sun and rain for the flowers in the heart to bloom. Or to look at it from another perspective, when we chant, the reticular activating system (RAS) in the brain notices the predictable nature of the chant, and softens its vigilance, allowing for deeper relaxation, inspiration, and a deeper sense of peace and joy that comes from the feeling that all is well. " ? Gina Sal?

INDIVIDUAL VOICE SESSIONS: Experience greater freedom and expression in singing and speaking tailored to your needs, interests and timing. As we release and transform blocks to our own vocal expression, we experience the freedom in mind, body, spirit and emotions. Your own voice is a direct pathway to integration of all aspects of our being and for deepening easy connection with others- which enhances the pleasure of our life and our effectiveness in our work. Spring Sing (with Indigenous Tendencies):  Rooting, Reflecting, and letting your voice Bloom!
Like flowers and everything else in nature, your voice is unique, powerful and wondrous! In this short afternoon “playshop” participants will be guided in experiencing spaciousness, possibility and authentic expression beyond our habitual vocal stylings through indigenous style singing, improvisation and vocal co-creations. As we relax into the joy of giving voice, the spirit of play returns, our hearts open, and we feel nourished, revitalized and inspired with ways to move forward with more confidence, love, authenticity and joy.

This type of singing has deep roots, and plenty of room for the diversity of authentic expression, and tends to lead to much delight! Its easy to love in this field.

The workshop will include physical voice opening exercises and imagery, reflection, and takes us below our common self-critical tendencies. See why people from every continent for thousands of years have sang with some of these common elements for health, connection, power and joy.
All are welcome. No experience needed.  If you can speak , you can sing.

Note: Please bring a cushion to sit on and water. (Gina is finally offering her kirtan class in Seattle!)

Everything is essentially vibration, and when we attune and allow divine vibrations through our bodies, mind and hearts, we feel bliss, love and remembrance of the Beauty that we are. Kirtan is an ancient, simple and delicious practice of singing divine names and mantras that calms the waters of the mind and allows the heart to open in freedom. It is a bhakti path, a path of the heart. Basically, it's call and response chanting with sacred syllables that have a very powerful and blissful effect. It can also be very grooving. Many of us have experienced kirtan – with people like Krishna Das or others. Gina Salá leads monthly kirtans in Seattle (see www.ginasala.com) and often in other places and has been chanting since she started living at a Hindu ashram at the age of 3. Simply opening into this practice allows such wondrous openings to joy and love. Whatever your path or cosmology, it can fit right in and you are welcome. Come check it out.

What will be covered:

-Basics of Bhakti Yoga (path of Devotion)

-fundamentals of kirtan- groove, structure, elements

-mantras, meaning and pronunciation

-overview of some of the names and aspects that are invoked - along with related stories and relevance

-kirtan chants with lyrics, chords and coaching

-coaching for voice and tips on sharing kirtan with greatest ease and joy and effectiveness.

-Gina will also assist/support you in developing a chanting practice in a way that fits with your style/instrumentation/abilities etc., including harmonium and guitar and kartal or other instruments, or just with your main instrument, your voice. This is a great way to dive into this delicious bhakti path - either in your personal practice or with others and to connect in the growing kirtan community. There will be follow ups to this series and a retreat Feb 5-13 in Mexico for those interested in a deeper dive.
